My first review!
Featured on WatchMojo: The 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 You Need to Binge (2023). I read the Hughes trilogy years ago and loved the books immensely. When I casually visited IMDB and found SILO, I was instantly hooked. I see a bit of mixed opinions and I can relate to some of them, here’s my take on the first season. First of all, I love dystopian literature!
It is not an adaptation in the sense that it follows the story
The dystopian genre offers a unique psychological perspective on human nature in hypothetical scenarios. My interest in the trilogy was strengthened because Hughes managed to develop Orwellian ideas in a hypothetical sense relevant to the modern world. Describing the development of the human psyche in dystopian scenarios is a challenging task. I think Hughes did a fantastic job, SILO captures most of these aspects in a refreshing way. It’s based on the books, but naturally has to adapt to viewers in a fast-paced world.
The acting is phenomenal for the main characters
However, the series manages to capture the atmosphere of a society living in a silo. Unlike the shallow storytelling of other shows, «SILO» has a wonderful blend of character development and atmospheric focus. The only issue I have with the show is the lack of atmospheric development. They spend a lot of screen time chasing and capturing Juliette. They lack the atmospheric development of the silo as a society.
Naturally, it must appeal to a receptive audience
Try it!
