Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned rodeo expert
Plot
A Montana ranching family must defend themselves against attackers who want to take over their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and revert to his regular Southern California voice.

(Review only covers the first two seasons.) I watched the series not expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are great. It’s basically Montana mob wars with the occasional massive dose of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses fishing)! Costner is a masterful actor in the lead role of the Duttons.
The show falters at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again halfway through
The show is at its best when it shows the Duttons and their enemies moving on the chessboard. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link in Monica’s story and plays a weak character, the plot is clumsily lost and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Hauser is probably the strongest actor as Rip (apart from Costner himself) and I couldn’t wait to see all of Rip’s scenes.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot is exciting and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All The Pretty Horses was a bit more gritty and brutal than the title suggests, this series follows a similar path. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
