Plot
An ambitious chef and a recently divorced woman’s lives are changed forever when a chance meeting brings them together in a decades-long, deeply moving romance. Director John Crowley also directed Andrew Garfield in Garfield’s first feature film, Boy A (2007).
Never before has the gap between my expectations and the actual impact of a film been so great
The possibilities were so vast with the casting of two of the greatest actors of our time – and even they couldn’t make a movie with soul. The script and soundtrack were completely forgettable, despite Pugh and Garfield doing a great job with what was available to them.
Both characters were very flat and I felt very little emotional involvement with them
The back-and-forth timeline made the emotional journey incomplete, as there was no preparation or roles to invest in. I had such high hopes and was counting down the days until this movie, and I was very disappointed when it went off the air.
I hope someone captures them together in a future film and gives them more opportunities to create a masterpiece
