Dani Timmins: Do I look stupid?
Plot
The whole weirdness consists of elements that McCarthy “culled from horror clichés.” The Wooden Man was inspired by Jewish folklore about the golem, a large clay figure that can come to life through rituals to do its creator’s bidding. If ever a film was given the perfect title, this is it. It borders on art house cinema, it’s a very avant-garde horror film, a little weird, but believe me, it works. I wasn’t sure what direction it was going to take, but the film starts off well and offers a few surprises along the way, delivering some disturbing moments, the wooden man scene being particularly good.
Overall, I definitely recommend it
If I had one small complaint, I think they did a little poorly with the lighting and some scenes are a little hard to understand. It feels a little sketchy at times, but I guess that’s part of the charm, maybe some of the acting isn’t great all the time, but again, it suits the film. 7/10.
